History of the Croissant
many would think that the croissant originated from France
but in fact! it dates back to Austria in 13th century
the earliest French reference to a croissant found was among the "fantasy or luxury bread"
the original croissant (kipfer) had no butter in the recipe,
hence it hasn't manifested itself as a puff pastry yet
there are many versions of how the croissant came to life
two that seems more plausible is :
"invented in Europe to celebrate the defeat of a Muslim invasion at the
decisive Battle of Tours by the Franks in 732, with the
shape representing the Islamic crescent"
decisive Battle of Tours by the Franks in 732, with the
shape representing the Islamic crescent"
(croissant sounds like crescent doesn't it!) ,
or
" invented in Vienna, Austria in 1683 to celebrate the defeat of the Turks to
Polish forces in the Turkish
siege of the city, as a reference to the crescents on the Turkish flags
when bakers staying up all night heard the tunneling operation and gave the alarm"

just a little trivia for croissant lovers!
