kipfer x croissant

History of the Croissant

many would think that the croissant originated from France
but in fact! it dates back to Austria in 13th century

the earliest French reference to a croissant found was among the "fantasy or luxury bread"

the original croissant (kipfer) had no butter in the recipe,
hence it hasn't manifested itself as a puff pastry yet

there are many versions of how the croissant came to life
two that seems more plausible is :

"invented in Europe to celebrate the defeat of a Muslim invasion at the
decisive
Battle of Tours by the Franks in 732, with the
shape representing the Islamic
crescent"
(croissant sounds like crescent doesn't it!) ,

or

" invented in Vienna, Austria in 1683 to celebrate the defeat of the Turks to
Polish forces in the Turkish
siege
of the city, as a reference to the crescents on the Turkish flags

when bakers staying up all night heard the tunneling operation and gave the alarm"

just a little trivia for croissant lovers!
